There are so many activities that we can do to bring value to our members, how do we know which ones will work? That is a great question and one that we get frequently. There is a process we call " 3 Steps To Anything " which helps us to determine which membership activities will bring the greatest value to our members. One thing that we have learned is that it's as much about the presentation and implementation of the idea which creates success as much as it is about the idea itself.
Step 1: Examination

Step 3: Implementation
Step 1: Examination is actually where the success often is created. Examination is where we survey our members to determine their biggest challenges, what they would love help on, what their personality is, and maybe a few other key questions. There are a number of reasons why the examination is so powerful.
- Members self discover what their needs are, where their pain is.
- Members start to connect solutions which come from the chamber / association to their challenges/pain.
- Members appreciate that we ask them key questions and will value their members more.
Step 2: Solutions - Once we determine the challenges members are facing and their personalities we are able to determine activities which best meet their needs and how to best present them based on their personalities.
- We better understand members needs and are able to better determine what activities are provide members.
Step 3: Implementation - Often members "Know what they need to do, but then don't follow through." Why is this true? Actually people often know on a surface level what needs to be done but do not know on a deep lever how to take action. There are three major reasons people do not take action.
- People do not know the true benefit of taking the action.
- People do not know the true cost of not taking the action. (We don't get a monthly bill for actions that we are not taking.)
- People do not know how to take the action with their current level of resources, time, expertise, etc. This is often the biggest reason.

Speed networking is not only a lot of fun but will also bring a lot of value to all your members. Often members are not skilled in networking or sales. This leads to them attending a lot of events and not really making any money. Not because of poor / weak events but because they have not been trained to turn networking events into money making events. Speed networking helps to put structure to a group of 3 to 7 people who each answer 5 questions about themselves which reveal where others in the group may be able to bring value to them. As we learn how to share specific valuable information and then receive that information and build a bridge between the needs of others and our products services that will be something of massive value we will take with us forever. Ideally done in person but can be done over the phone as well.
